Discovering Life, Learning and Leadership

Have you ever felt like giving up on one of your goals because it was taking too long or seeming impossible? I have. In this case, I’m sure glad we didn’t. The reward for not giving up has made the perseverance worth it all.

For a few years, one of Creation’s strategic initiatives has been to establish a business unit in a Low Cost Region in the Western Hemisphere. I am delighted to share with you that on October 2, 2012 we welcomed the 200 people of Aisling Industries, in Mexicali, Mexico and El Centro, California, to our Creation family!

Town Hall in Mexicali, Mexico – Arthur Tymos and Sergio Quiroz presenting

I wish I had kept up the Spanish I took in Grades 9 and 10. It was fun saying “Bienvenidos a la Familia Creation” to our new Creation team members in Mexicali and then stumbling through trying to explain in Spanish that I had taken two years of Spanish in High School but not had an opportunity to use it since. High School was a long time ago, so thankfully Sergio Quiroz, General Manager Creation Technologies – Mexicali, translated. Going forward, I will now have more opportunities to practice my Spanish.

It was a pleasure for me to participate in the Town Hall Meeting with Michael Logue, the President and founder of Aisling Industries, as we officially announced the establishment of Creation Technologies – Mexicali. Following the Town Hall, we had a time of celebration and lots of photo taking.

Before we were introduced to Mike Logue and team at Aisling Industries, our team had looked at dozens of companies in Mexico, but none of them had the right combination of dedicated and experienced people, good culture, strong and loyal customer base and a great location.  We were beginning to wonder if we were expecting too much. I am so happy to say that in Aisling we finally found a team of people and a company that meets all these important criteria!

During my recent trip to Mexico, I enjoyed spending time with Mike Logue, Sergio Quiroz and others. Mike began Aisling Industries in 1982 and, much like our Creation founders, turned a small one-customer business into a world class manufacturing services provider with some great customers. It was a pleasure to spend time with and get to know both of these men. The enthusiasm that people in Mexicali have shown in becoming part of Creation has been heartwarming.

In the weeks ahead, I look forward to working with our new Creation family members ensuring our Creation Culture, Customer-Focused Team model and Lean Thinking in Action focus are integrated into the new unit’s operations while preserving the strengths that our new team members bring to Creation. We also look forward to moving the manufacturing operation to a newer 125,000 sq. foot facility nearby by the end of this year!

Previously, I had visited Mexico a few times on business and vacation but none of those trips were as exciting as travelling to our very own Creation Technologies location in Mexico.

Have you done business in Mexico? Have you ever pursued a big goal that took much longer or was much harder than you expected? Did you give up or see it through?

Creation technologies will always be successful due to spiritual thinking and creative leadership. Only wish that this kind of leadership was available at the national and international levels!

I have in fact done business in Mexico which included sub-contract relationships, a “shelter” organization, and finally the selection of a site and establishment of an ongoing concern -almost a decade ago now.

Once we elected that we wanted our own business there it took almost 4 years for the first SMT part to be placed! We originally thought it would take about 9 months to greenfield the business -most of that time was spent clearing and waiting for the regulatory/incorporation hurdles to be overcome!

Nicely done Creation a very nice strategic addition and no doubt a great group of people to help improve the company!
