Discovering Life, Learning and Leadership

Without question, one of the highlights of my business year is the week when our Creation Technologies’ Executive Leadership Team (ELT) meets for our annual Vision & Strategy planning summit.  I love planning, Preparation is a Core Value at Creation and it is so enjoyable to have our team together from across Canada, the USA and China.

In the video clip below, three of our ELT members join me in discussing this year’s summit.  From left to right are:

  • Me
  • Dan Barraclough, People & Culture Development Leader
  • Mike Walsh, Chief Financial Officer
  • Sandra Hayes, General Manager – Dallas

Our ELT is a large team of 23 people which would normally create a challenge in facilitating a planning session.  However, given the great respect, cooperation and teamwork, we are able to work together in a productive and fun way.  In addition to the great comments in the above video, here are some of the observations and comments made this week by other ELT members:

“The advanced preparation was the best we have ever had” (hundreds of Creation people participated in advanced planning sessions and provided excellent input – thanks to everyone who contributed!)

“Once again, a great Vision & Strategy session”

“It is hard to imagine a group of over 20 people collaborating as well as we do”

“I’m just saying!” (I still have no idea what this really means other than when it was frequently said throughout the last day it seemed to punctuate what was previously said and always triggered a good laugh – maybe you had to be there to appreciate this)

I observed great passion, productive hard work, a high degree of energy and contribution from every ELT member, meaningful and vigorous debate and a lot of fun despite the intense thought-demanding work.  Our ELT succeeded in ensuring that our Vision is crisp and compelling and in developing a focused Strategy to move us towards our Vision.  Well done team!

We look forward to reviewing our Vision & Strategy with our Board of Directors in December and then rolling it out to our entire Creation family in early 2012.

Do you have a compelling Vision & Strategy?  What are your thoughts and comments on our recent Vision & Strategy Summit?

    Hello Arthur,

We are all very fortunate that we have a group of leaders that share the same vision and in turn, are able to put to practice the plans to insure Creation Technologies continued growth and success. I am blessed to be part of this great organization.

    Very Best regards,

    Hello Arthur:

I am glad to see a fellow business owner really committed to the longevity of his organization. We are doing the same here at BBG. While we don’t call it ELT, our Long Range Planning (LRP) committee has major strategy session/review every November. In December we decide the direction, do our best to execute and then we review quarterly to see our progress–we even map it out and post for all to see–and then it starts all over again the following November–it has been a key to our success.

Feedback is a gift, it truly is. While I want feedback from the customer it is more important that I hear from my people–the ones the really provide my/our/BBG’s success. They should have a say in our success or at least understand the direction the company is going so all can better serve. More importantly, the LRP is a morale boost–a plan of action that puts everyone at ease in this challenging economy.

    Thank you for sharing,

    Greg Papandrew
    BBG, President
