Discovering Life, Learning and Leadership

Bill Hybels

In this book, Bill Hybels presents 76 leadership lessons or proverbs that have guided his own leadership approach over the years.  At 220 pages, it is an instructive and easy read written in Hybel’s typical conversational style.

The 76 axioms are presented in four main categories:

  1. Vision and Strategy
  2. Teamwork and Communication
  3. Activity and Assessment
  4. Personal Integrity

I first read this book in October 2008 and have referred to it on a number of occasions since.  Over the years, I have enjoyed reading several of Bill’s books and find him to be open and thought provoking.

I enjoy learning about what books inspire others. For nonfiction, I like Original Self by Thomas Moore, The Seven Mysteries of Life by Guy Murchie, and The Heart Can be Filled Anywhere by Bill Holm (his memoir of growing up Icelandic in Minnesota).

Quirky Quotes

A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go but ought to be.
